Why Is Irish Moss Darker than Sea Moss?
The natural colour of the species of seaweed we use to make Irish moss is a purply/brown colour. Parts of it can become blonde due to sun bleaching.
We air dry our seaweed indoors to prevent contamination from birds, so the natural colour of the seaweed is preserved. If you see a blonde coloured sea moss on the market it may be because it has been dried outside on the beach, or the natural colour of the species of seaweed used to make it is a lighter colour.
How we harvest, test our pack our Irish Moss
This seaweed is harvested from an eco-certified area in France, then air dried indoors* to preserve its rich nutrient density. Whilst similar species do grow around New Zealand, there is currently no commercial supply available at a food grade level.
Pacific Harvest specialises in seaweed and has been trusted by the nutritional community since 2002. We test Irish Moss for contaminants in external labs, before packing them by hand in our food grade facility in Auckland.
