What is the white powder on Dulse leaves?

You may notice a white powder on your Dulse – this is the result of the amino acid, glutamine, which naturally rises to the surface as the leaf dries.  This what powder is not to be mistaken for mould. It is the very thing that gives Dulse its umami flavour.

Pacific Harvest’s Atlantic Dulse is wild harvested from an Eco-cert organically certified area.

Always choose seaweeds which have been tested for contaminants. Just as they absorb nutrients, they also absorb toxins from the ocean, so it's essential that food grade seaweeds have been properly tested. We test to the ANZ Food Code requirements.

We grade our seaweeds by hand, but occasionally miss something. Please check for ocean detritus before use.

Grown in EU (Ireland or France). Packed in New Zealand.

Storage: Dulse is light sensitive and may lighten in colour if exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time.  Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.  Seaweeds are hygroscopic, meaning they absorb moisture from the air, so seal securely once opened.

Allergens: MAY CONTAIN TRACES OF: Crustacea, Fish, Molluscs.

Warnings: Contains naturally occurring iodine. Excessive consumption may exceed recommended daily dietary intakes which could have adverse effects.

How to Use Dulse Leaves

Dulse leaves are a popular smoothie ingredient, chopped into cleansing and detoxing smoothies as Dulse is strongly associated with the collection and removal of heavy metals and toxins. (Read more about how all seaweeds (not just Dulse!) can naturally help to cleanse and detox here.)

However, what fewer people know is they are also the perfect garnish on eggs, soups, savoury baking, potatoes, and poke bowls.
The easiest way to eat Dulse leaves is raw, straight from the bag. Pop it in your air frier for an amazing salty snack!
